Invoicing in the United States

Invoicing software for the United States

Send professional invoices in US dollars — with sales tax you define per state, because there is no national rate to assume.

Built for how US businesses actually invoice

The United States has no federal sales tax. Rates are set by state, county and city, and what is taxable differs by jurisdiction and by what you sell. That is why Invroot ships no default rate for a US workspace: it lets you define the rates you are actually registered to collect, rather than inventing a number that would be wrong nearly everywhere.

Sales tax

Rates you define, not one we assume

No national rate exists, so none is assumed. Define the rates you are registered to collect and apply them per line. Services are untaxed in many states — leaving a line untaxed is a first-class option, not a workaround.

Be aware

Not a sales-tax nexus or filing tool

Invroot does not track economic nexus thresholds, calculate rates by ZIP code, or file returns with any state. If you are collecting across many jurisdictions you will want dedicated sales-tax software alongside it; Invroot handles the invoicing and receivables.

USD

Priced and paid in dollars

Invoice in USD, or in your client's currency when you bill abroad — any of 140. Each invoice keeps the currency it was issued in, through reports and statements.

Records

Your business details on every document

Your EIN or tax ID, address and business name sit on every invoice, quote and receipt, alongside your logo and signature.

Numbering

Sequential, gap-free numbering

Numbers are assigned in sequence and never skip. A gap in the numbering series of a VAT-registered business is a question you would rather not be asked.

Getting paid

Payment links and automatic chasing

Every invoice can carry a payment link, and overdue ones are chased on a schedule you set, so following up is not a job someone has to remember.

United States invoicing questions

No, and any tool that claims to do it simply is worth a second look. Rates depend on state, county, city and what you are selling. Invroot lets you define the rates you are registered to collect and apply them per line; it does not look up rates by address or track nexus.

No — deliberately. There is no national rate, so a default would be wrong almost everywhere. You add the rates you actually use in Settings, and they apply from then on.

Yes, in any of 140 currencies, chosen per invoice and per client. Your books stay in dollars while your foreign clients are billed in theirs.

No. Invroot is invoicing and accounts receivable — what you bill and what you collect. Payroll and contractor reporting are a different tool.
